Why it matters

Caring for Singapore’s marine environment depends on communities, government, and marine-dependent sectors working together in a shared and often crowded space. Our seas support diverse habitats — from mangroves and seagrass to coral reefs — while also serving many daily uses, making trade-offs and priorities difficult to navigate.

This workshop helps make those connections visible. Through a hands-on 3D Mapping experience, participants can better understand how different interests, decisions, and ecosystems interact, and identify where collaborative action can lead to more effective and balanced outcomes for Singapore’s marine habitats — and our collective well-being.

Seeds of Change

A public workshop series that combines systems thinking and futures tools to help practitioners, changemakers and curious citizens think and decide differently in complexity.

See overview of the series here.

What is 3D Mapping

3D Mapping is a hands-on way for small groups to make sense of complex situations together. Participants co-create a physical model of a system, using objects to represent people, forces, and relationships. By moving around the model and viewing it from different angles, the group can explore how the system works — and where it might shift.

This approach is especially useful for:

  • Quickly visualising the current reality of a system

  • Exploring relationships and interconnections in a tactile, spatial way

  • Creating space for shared reflection and dialogue

3D Mapping is a tool by U School of Transformation and adapted from the Symbols Process (The Ashland Institute).
