Why This Matters
Climate change is a material risk to Singapore. The response is already underway and largely predictable: sea walls and polders, cooling solutions, import diversification, desalination. Much of it is necessary. But it carries assumptions worth naming — that adaptation is something we build, and that the growth paying for it can keep expanding.
If we adapt by building, what does that consume — land, energy, materials, carbon — and who is protected first? If the point is to ensure the wellbeing of our people and planet, what would we do differently? Post-growth thinking offers one answer: organising economic activity around care, sufficiency and regeneration rather than expansion.
Every choice sets off consequences, many unintended. Before committing, it's worth tracing where they lead. So we ask:

What We’ll Do
In this 3-hour interactive workshop, we will use the Futures Wheel to trace the consequences of adapting to climate change differently. Together we will:
Get oriented to post-growth principles with Post-Growth SG — Care, Connectedness, Resilience, Regeneration and Sufficiency.
Map the first, second and third-order consequences of our seed decision - a climate adaptation approach designed around post-growth principles.
Surface the tensions: who gains, who loses, and what becomes harder before it becomes better.
Reflect on what this means for your own work, sector, or community - alongside others asking the same question.

No prior experience with systems thinking, futures tools or post-growth economics is required. Recommended for participants aged 13 and above.
Do I need to agree with post-growth ideas to attend?
Not at all. The Futures Wheel is a thinking tool, not an advocacy tool. We're not asking you to endorse a position — we're asking you to trace consequences rigorously. Scepticism is useful here, and often produces the most interesting branches on the wheel.

Do I need to prepare anything?
You'll receive a short primer on post-growth principles and the seed decision ahead of time. It's a brief read designed to help you participate fully, not a heavy assignment. Beyond that, just bring your curiosity and willingness to engage.
